Women's Physique Division

QUESTION:
Hey Scott. Mad props for you for sponsoring the female bodybuilding division at the London show. Sorely needed nowadays. So I'm definitely have to give you mad props for stepping up where most aren't in spite of the lack of demand. Heard from Robin D also worked at your booth this year at the show. She made a pretty good comeback at masters nationals this year eh? Hope all is well. What's your thoughts on the physique division for the women coming up?
Kaleem Maxwell,
Toronto Ontario

ANSWER: Thanks Kaleem! We don't discriminate simply because of ones gender which is unlike most "bodybuilding" magazines. We want to promote all things bodybuilding in Canada which has been very well received by the fans and by the industry. We had Robin at this show (pictured on this post) which was an honor! Apart from having one of the freakiest shoulder to waist differentials at the national level and weighing in at a solid 205 pounds, she's also very knowledgeable and positive with the crowd which makes her great to work with. Robin really believes in what we're doing. We plan on doing many more shows, store appearances and special events with her and other Canadian female (and male of course) bodybuilders. Oops, did I just show my hand to my competitors?

As for my opinion of the IFBB's new "female physique" division, I think it's a great to provide more opportunities for women to compete in. This new class will also help encourage natural athletes to consider competing (or those not using high doses) and figure girls that may want to drop their bodyfat down to a lower level to compete. It will put more bodies on the stage which sponsors will be happy to see. More competitors equals more attendees at these shows which means more dollars will be generated. This revenue increase allows promoters to get better trophies, select better venues, advertise events more, and it encourages other promoters to run more shows etc. With a greater number of competitors and attendees at these shows, the sponsors get more bang for their buck by getting to give out a more product samples and reach a larger total audience. And let's not forget that physique competitors take tons of supplements so the more competitors doing shows, the more supplements consumed. Competitors also hire trainers for contest prep, buy Pro Tan, buy outfits etc. Overall, the fitness industry is kicked into growth with more people competing in physique contests which is a great thing for Canada!
