Shed Water Without Lasix Aldactone Or Dyazide
Q. What’s the best way to shed water before a show? And I mean without using diuretic drugs.
A. The two best natural diuretic agents are (1) water and (2) dandelion root. Yes, water itself is actually the best natural diuretic. The more you drink, the more your body will expel. That’s why I always recommend that competitors increase their water intake each day during the last week of prep, right up until cutting it the night before the show. Along with this water-loading technique, I also suggest a high dose of dandelion root extract. A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine shows that you need a minimum of 8 grams of dandelion root taken twice daily in order to increase water loss. In fact, subjects that took 8 grams of dandelion twice daily increased water loss by 19.8 percent in just 24 hours! Not too shabby for a natural diuretic. Juniper berry is one other herb that has pretty decent diuretic effects. The German Commission E Monographs (the worldwide scientific authority on herbals) prescribe 2 grams of juniper 2 to 3 times daily for its diuretic effects. Take a look at the chart here. You can use this as a guide to help you shed water before your next show. Just remember, everybody responds differently. So sometimes trial and error is the only way to really get it right the final week. But this guide should definitely steer you in the right direction.
