Off Season Eating Tricks
We have all been there, training like mad, eating as much as you think you can, taking tons of supplements but the gains are not what you expect. What are you doing wrong? In most cases you're simply not eating enough. I've seen bodybuilders in the off season claim to eat 4,000 calories per day but upon me analyzing their diet, found them eating 2,800 cals at the max! For many guys it's really hard to eat more when you feel stuffed. For this situation, supplements make things a lot easier but these can be hard to consume if you're not hungry. Here are some tricks I learned from trainer Trevor Smith (inventor of Beyond Failure Training) to pack more food down your throat when you're in off-season eating mode.
- Protein Shakes: When you blend or shake up a protein drink a huge amount of air gets mixed in with everything. The end result is that you wind up with a product that's almost twice as filling as it should be. You drink it down and feel like you just had a lead ball dropped in your gut. Two hours later you're still stuffed so you wind up having to skip meals. So here's the trick: Mix 200 grams of whey protein with 2 cups of water and 21/2 cups of skim milk. I use a blender to mix everything together and make sure all the powder is dissolved. Let the whole thing site for 2 hours or so. This allows the massive amount to air that was mixed in with the powder and liquid to float to the top and dissipate. After 2 hours you will actually see all the air bubbles on top of the liquid. This will allow you to consume only the protein powder and liquid it was mixed with and not excess air which bloats the heck out of you! Doing this I can easily consume over 200 grams of protein each day just from powders and skimmed milk alone.
- Ground Beef: I recommend using use extra-lean ground beef. The only problem is that it's hard to get swallow because it's dry as sand! So Here's The Trick: Try mixing in some tomato sauce after it is cooked and then throw the whole mixture into the food processor. This mashes everything up into a easy to eat, baby food paste that tastes pretty good. Eating a pound of lean beef this way is a hell of a lot easier than gagging down a dry burger patty.
- Chicken Breasts: Are very difficult to eat when they're broiled. So Here's The Trick: Cook the chicken breast and then while they are hot drop them one at a time into a food processor and chop them up into a fine powder. Then mix it in a pot with half a can of fat free cream of chicken soup and some water. The result is easy to eat, tasty cream of chicken baby food that is easy to spoon in and very easy for your system to digest. All food must be liquified before being absorbed, this moves food closer to this stage.
- Oatmeal & Egg Whites: Again eaten this combination separately can be very filling. So Here's The Trick: Take 10-12 egg whites (I use www.Eggsel.com egg whites for the purity, low price and convenience and because they're supporters of MUSCLE INSIDER which makes them my friends of course!). Mix this with a cup of oatmeal and 1 banana and some cinnamon. Stir it until it forms a batter. Pour it all into two pans making two pancakes. Once cooked they can be taken with you and eaten very easily. The perfect protein carb meal that tastes awesome.
