R-N-Benzyl-Alpha-Phenylethylamine
This is a strange compound for me to see being sold as a supplement. The stuff is sold commercially as a reagent for synthetic chemistry where it is used to separate out enantiomers (mirror image isomers) of other compounds. But you don’t need to know those details - just understand that this stuff has a use in the chemical industry
Apparently people have given it a use in the supplement industry as well, and it is being touted as a stimulant / appetite suppressant ingredient. I don’t know what they are basing this on, as I did a search for its pharmacological properties and came up pretty empty. Maybe its assumed that as a phenylethylamine (PEA, the feel good brain chemical) derivative it shares some of the same properties as PEA itself. However this stuff is a derivative of alpha-PEA (not beta-PEA), and it is beta-PEA that is the well known brain chemical. I am not sure if alpha-PEA possesses much of the desirable psychostimulant properties of beta-PEA, and I suspect it does not based on its chemical structure and the known requirements for activity (i.e. proximity of nitrogen to phenyl ring). Does it do anything for weight loss or appetite? I don’t know. It's not something I would expect to have much activity, and so for me to guess any dose where it might be active is impossible for me.
