Creepy Photographer Threatens Scott Welch

Q. Last issue, you wrote a piece called “Creepy photographers exploiting models.” Well, I’m here to tell you that what you wrote is childish, unprofessional, and unwarranted, and it’s going to sink you knee-deep in crap. When I’m at these bodybuilding contests, I enjoy taking photos for my own reasons. I pay for a ticket to the show, and yes, I do take pictures of teens and other men, but we have an understanding and there’s consent given. So it’s none of your damn business what I do or don’t do with my camera and my art. You wrote that piece to encourage contest promoters to reduce the number of press passes they give out to photographers so you can monopolize the contest coverage. But you’ve indirectly named me in your writing, which is slander here bro. S-L-A-N-D-E-R! You’re a disgrace to the bodybuilding industry, and your witch hunt to clean up the industry stops now. If I don’t see a full feature that puts a positive spin on physique photography and teen muscle in the next issue of MUSCLE INSIDER, you’ll hear from my attorney, and it’s going to cost you $8,000 large. Govern yourself accordingly, bro, and I mean that.

A. Okay, I will indeed govern myself accordingly, bro, and I mean that! So here goes: For anyone who missed the “controversial” piece I wrote, visit http://www.muscle-insider.com/content/creepyphotographers-
exploiting-models
And for anyone who wants to turn in one of these photography creeps and spill the beans on their antics, message me on facebook and I will see to it that they get all the publicity they need! It seems like I really hit a nerve with some of the predators I was trying to protect our readers from. In fact, I received seven threats from wannabe photographers (who, of course, refused to use their real names) who felt I had singled them out or implied that it was them that I was referring to. So in this legal case, if I continue doing what I do, it’s going to cost me “$8,000 large,” as you put it! Why 8 and not 10 or even 25 thousand? Is that how much money you’d like to exploit from me to pay for your next camera? What do I say to this threat? Bring it! I’ve spent literally thousands of hours with corporate lawyers battling through almost 30 lawsuits involving businesses and personalities in the fitness industry. In fact, I was even once sued by Unilever, one of the largest consumer goods companies in the world! These legal battles have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and endless hours of time that I cannot take back, but I’ve learned enough about the many sides of the U.S. and Canadian legal system that your $8,000 legal threat is peanuts by comparison to what I’ve been through. You’ve simply come at the wrong guy because I won’t back down or be bullied by you or any other person looking to prevent MUSCLE INSIDER from cleaning up the industry and running creeps like you out.
