Training Abs Doesn't Reduce Stomach Fat
Pick up any fitness magazine and you’ll see countless ab-training routines, all promising you a rock-hard sixpack! But not at MUSCLE INSIDER, because we know that’s bullshit! But don’t just take our word for it—let’s look at the research. Scientists took 14 men and 10 women and had them put into two groups: One group did 7 ab exercises for 2 sets of 10 reps, 5 days per week for 6 weeks. The second group did absolutely nothing! Both groups maintained the same diet throughout the study. When the results were tabulated, there were no significant effects of ab exercises on body weight, body fat percentage, abdominal fat percentage, android fat, waist measurement, abdominal skinfold test, or suprailiac skinfold measurements. However, those training abs did have more ab-exercise stamina! Geez, they should with that amount of training volume! The researchers concluded, “Six weeks of abdominal exercise training alone was not sufficient to reduce abdominal subcutaneous fat and other measures of body composition.”
