OPA competitor Profile: Mirabel Bainwohl
Guest column, courtesy of Sabrina Bainwohl:
She started weight lifting 2 years ago. She committed to training for her first show - the GNC Natural Oktoberfest Body Building Competition, 1 year ago. She gave up most of her evenings to train at the gym. She endured 5:30am cardio workouts. She followed a strict diet plan for months. She opted out of sleep overs and social outings, so as not to disrupt her training schedule. She became passionate about bodybuilding. She is Mirabel Bainwohl, age 15, and she is my daughter.
I am truly inspired and awestruck at her maturity, discipline and drive to succeed. I am not surprised however, that she has followed in the footsteps of my late husband, Sheldon. He passed away 3-1/2 years after a long battle with cancer. Sheldon used to call himself "the healthiest sick person on earth." Weight lifting was one of his passions, and ironically, where we met for the first time many years ago.
Mirabel adopted her father’s motto – “Quitting is not an option”. No matter how tough things got, Mirabel never quit. Her team of trainers and coaches, Brenda Dungey-Wood of Waterloo Stork YMCA, Martin Conde of Waterloo Stork YMCA, and Marc St. Pierre of Team Goals Training, sisters Sarah and Jennaca, family, friends and myself are all extremely proud of Mirabel.
