Muscle Genes Testing and Reccomendations

I’ve been telling MUSCLE INSIDER readers about MuscleGenes, the longawaited arrival of genetic testing for athletes and bodybuilders to help adapt their training, diet, and supplementation to their particular genetic traits. MuscleGenes is helping world-class athletes understand why their bodies respond to various training, diet, and supplement regimens and helping them gain an edge. To date, we’ve tested Ronnie Coleman, Dr. Jim Stoppani, and Ms. Bikini Olympia Nathalia Melo, and six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates!

WHAT IS MUSCLEGENES?
MuscleGenes literally tests for specific gene types (called “genotypes”) that have been shown to help control different aspects of your body’s functions. Founded by myself, Dr. Dan Reardon, and key partners, our specific testing protocol has been developed by PhD geneticists with gene testing being conducted at our laboratory in Oxfordshire, England. The genetic data that emerges is used to make recommendations on how a client’s genes affect a multitude of metabolic pathways in the body, which in turn affect training, diet, sleep patterns, exercise timing and supplement effectiveness— essentially, how the body responds to different exercise protocols, different nutrients (such as carbs), and different  supplements (such as preworkouts). Currently, your MuscleGenes kit arrives in the mail equipped with a painless mouth swab to collect your DNA. Once you send it back, you’ll receive the MuscleGenes ebook, your gene test results, and specific recommendations geared toward your fitness, training, and nutrition goals, along with email support and membership to our new MuscleGenes.com website.

SO HOW DOES MUSCLEGENES WORK?
As most weightlifters already know, if you give 10 different guys exactly the same training program, they’ll all respond a little differently. In fact, you’ll probably get a few who barely put on any muscle at all and others who respond really well. The research clearly agrees. A 2005 study published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that out of the almost 600 people on a prescribed 12-week lifting program, some gained no muscle or strength whatsoever, while others experienced up to a 59 percent and 250 percent increase! For those who didn’t show any muscle gains, the situation may seem desperate, but chances are likely that some of those non-responders weren’t training correctly for their genotype. MuscleGenes testing and recommendations would reveal that these guys weren’t training effectively, according to research done on one of the most highly studied sports genotypes, which is just one recommendation for one of the many and ever-growing number of genes we test for!

MuscleGenes also tests for scientifically established indicators of insulin function to explain why certain people respond better to high and low-carb diets, and will make dietary and supplement recommendations based upon your gene outcomes. If you want to know why you or some people respond better or worse to the stimulant and nitric oxide- boosting aspects of preworkout products, MuscleGenes testing can show you and help narrow down your pre-workout supplements.

MY MUSCLEGENES TRANSFORMATION

As one of the first people to be gene tested, I can tell you that I put on almost 10 pounds of lean muscle by training to my gene type—this, after lifting for almost 30 years and at age 45! Believe me, I’ve tried every new (and old) training, diet, and supplement technique, and this is the most muscle I’ve put on in such a short time span … ever! From the end of March 2013 to the beginning of September, I went from 185 to 202 pounds and later cut down to 196 pounds (see picture), which is by far my highest “lean” weight ever, and the only thing that changed was my MuscleGenes training and diet alterations. Eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman is so impressed by his MuscleGenes recommendations that he and his team want to work with us! 2012 Ms. Bikini Olympia Nathalia Melo says she was totally blown away by the comprehensiveness and detail of her MuscleGenes report.

Then, there is the feedback we’ve received from our more genetically normal customers. You see, whether it’s for health, muscle gains, or performance enhancement, most of the scientific community agrees that genetics is the way of the future and will likely be responsible for the next medical and fitness renaissance. For details on how you can obtain your own MuscleGenes kit, and for more information on how genotype testing can help you grow muscle and get the “edge,” go to MuscleGenes.com and sign up for our free newsletter. You can be sure that we’ll surprise you with a few unexpected little bonuses and prizes just for having been MuscleGenes-tested too.
