HX108CS: What is it?

HX108-CS

From “The Journal of Obscure Supplements You’ve Never Heard of, but May Actually Help You”:

I realize there aren’t any actual words in the name of that supplement, but believe me when I tell you it may be the newest product that companies will start adding to their pre-workout matrixes/proprietary blends/kitchen sinks. In all seriousness, HX108-CS is the pharmaceutical name for a mixed extract of Schisandra chinensis and Chaenomeles sinensis.

This particular product falls under the pharmaceutical category of “immunostimulant,” meaning that it stimulates the immune system by activating some or all of its components.

Scientists measured three markers of exercise: lactate accumulation, endurance capacity, and markers of skeletal muscle injury. In the results, blood lactate concentration was significantly lowered immediately after treadmill exercise. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the time to exhaustion in a swimming test, and concurrently blood lactate concentration was significantly decreased.

How and why these results came about, we can only hypothesize. Recalling the above information about immunostimulants, it should stand to reason that a product such as HX108-CS would help ameliorate damaged skeletal muscle tissue after resistance training. And regarding the exercise capacity element, HX108-CS accomplishes this through lowering overall lactate accumulation.
