Fat Loss Training Mistakes
Q. What is the number one mistake you see people do when training for fat loss?
A. The biggest error I see is that when people are doing their cardio work, they don’t know at what heart rate and lactate level they should be training. When people are just beginning training, they usually haven’t built up the mitochondria levels and enzymes systems to handle a high-intensity cardio session. They’re usually reinforcing their systems to burn carbohydrates preferentially instead of fat. In the clinic, when people weren’t losing weight at the rate we thought they should, we would do lactate testing with them on the treadmill. We found the majority of them had not developed an aerobic mitochondrial and enzyme base to handle the high intensity and heart rate training. So we would have them training at a lower heart rate, and through time, the mitochondria and enzymes would increase, allowing them to start to preferentially burn fat at a higher training level.
