Q. Are there any new and effective (effective being the key!) estrogen blockers available? Since 6-OXO got yanked from the market, I haven’t been able to find an effective replacement.

A. Well, there’s been a lot of hype about an ingredient called Bulbine natalensis, which I actually wrote about in my last Q&A column. It appears to be quite an effective aromatase inhibitor, but there’s one big problem: getting the right strain of bulbine and getting it from the right source! I’ve actually been working on sourcing the real bulbine for almost six months now and haven’t been able to secure anything quite yet. I actually found the right strain (the one that was used in the clinical studies), and I found the one and only legitimate supplier in South Africa, but the problem is that they currently don’t have the capacity to harvest and process bulbine on a large enough scale to currently meet the market demands. The supplier has told me that all its current inventory and production is already spoken for by one company down in the US (and even this company won’t re-sell it for above market value price!). So that being said, it will be at least a few months before you see a legitimate bulbine product on the Canadian market because the real bulbine simply is not available. Based on my discussions with the only legit bulbine supplier in South Africa, it looks like more of the real bulbine should be available in a couple of months, and fortunately I’m first in line to secure the Canadian rights to it!

Since I haven’t been able to get my hands on the real bulbine, I started looking into some other options for anti-aromatase compounds and stumbled upon something pretty cool! I’ve been studying a very cutting-edge ingredient called acacetin, which is derived from the damiana plant.

ACACETIN99™
Researchers at the University of Mississippi first discovered acacetin when they studied the anti-aromatase and estrogenic activity of 24 different compounds isolated from the damiana plant. Among the 24 tested compounds, pinocembrin and acacetin showed the most potent aromatase inhibition. Estrogenic activity was also observed in three compounds, including apigenin 7-glucoside, Z-echinacin and pinocembrin, but acacetin had no estrogenic activity at all. In fact, acacetin suppressed up to 63 percent of aromatase activity. The researchers concluded that two isolated compounds, pinocembrin and acacetin, could significantly suppress aromatase activity. However, pinocembrin showed estrogenic activity. Therefore, acacetin was the only compound found to have potent anti-aromatase activity and absolutely no estrogenic effects.
Acacetin is only sold under the brand name ACACETIN99™, and it’s a newly developed 99 percent pure, pharmaceutical-grade form of acacetin. ACACETIN99™ is a patent-protected compound and is synthesized through a specific process in order to deliver pure acacetin for maximum anti-aromatase effects. Look for it in 2012 in a new anti-aromatase product called ANTI-A™ that I will be releasing under the SD Pharmaceuticals brand.
