Mediterranean Fat Fighter?

Research suggests the benefits of a new Mediterranean diet-inspired fat-loss ingredient

The Mediterranean diet is a modern nutritional lifestyle inspired by the traditional dietary patterns of Greece, Italy, Spain, and southern France. But what it’s best known for are the numerous known bioactive substances in this diet that improve health and weight management. It’s been one of the challenges of innovation within the food supplement industry today to combine natural components and optimize the positive effects of synergistic compounds that replicate what makes the Mediterranean diet so successful.

One French company, Fytexia, which develops and supplies natural ingredients to the international food supplement industry, is at the forefront of developing naturally derived functional ingredients. More specifically, it develops and brings to market healthy ingredients from the region of Languedoc-Roussillon on the Mediterranean coast of France. Fytexia gains inspiration from the field of botanicals and has developed a sustainable way to ensure traceability and superior quality. On an annual basis, Fytexia invests in new clinical studies to provide proof of efficacy for its ingredient portfolio, which it has done for the weight-loss ingredient complex called Sinetrol.

Bottling the Mediterranean Diet

Sinetrol is a polyphenol-rich patented Mediterranean weight-loss ingredient with several human clinical studies to back up its efficacy. (In fact, the research is so strong that I’ve included it as a leading ingredient in my very own Ripped Freak 2.0 formula.) Sinetrol acts by way of a mechanism of action that enhances the rate of lipolysis. Weight-loss benefits have been demonstrated in three clinical studies and most recently a four-week follow-up study was done after the third study. In total, Sinetrol has been clinically shown to help with body-fat loss, leading to a better body composition, in nearly 200 subjects.

The Power of Polyphenols

Bioactive polyphenols constitute a widely present organic family of phytochemicals in the plant kingdom. Among them, flavonoids represent the most important class of polyphenolic compounds. The flavonoids are divided into subclasses based on the degree of saturation, oxidation (hydroxyls and methoxyls), glycosylation, andpolymerization. The widespread structural multiplicities of these bioactives contribute to a large number of possibilities for enhancement in regard to their beneficial effects on health. Thus, understanding flavonoids is a topic of increasing importance, especially in the prevention of chronic diseases.

In this context, Sinetrol is a unique citrus fruit-based ingredient made from the juice, peels, and seeds of fruit of specific varieties of sweet and blood oranges (Citrus sinensis L.), grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macfad.), and guarana (Paullinia cupana Kunth). The compound provides a total synergistic polyphenol content of 90 percent and offers key benefits of the Mediterraneandiet.

What the Research Suggests

The first two clinical studies on Sinetrol were conducted in France at the well-respected American Hospital. In a healthy population of overweight men and women, these studies demonstrated that the polyphenol-rich ingredient is a safe solution for reducing body fat. In both studies, the test subject groups experienced significant and progressive fat loss during the trials, especially in the abdominal area, as compared to the control groups. Both studies were double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled and lasted 12 weeks. They included a total of 115 subjects, and the Sinetrol subjects took 900 milligrams per day.

A third study was conducted in Spain at the Research Center, University Murcia. This was also a double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled study that lasted 12 weeks with a four-week follow-up. Here, too, Sinetrol induced significant loss of weight and fatty tissue. The four-week follow-up showed the group that supplemented with Sinetrol continued to improve with additional reduction of body weight, BMI, total fat mass, and trunk fat mass, though participation was voluntary and not part of the study.

The evidence seems to suggest Sinetrol is a promising non-prescription ingredient that may be invaluable in fighting fat.
