Contaminated Creatine?

Q. Years ago, you exposed contaminants found in creatine made in China. What’s your opinion of the quality of creatine found on the market today? Has this problem been cleaned up?

A. It’s hard to say. Things have changed quite a bit since I wrote those articles. Now, there’s only two sources for creatine: Germany, via AlzChem, producers of Creapure, and various Chinese producers of varying quality. The Chinese product has improved considerably since I first wrote my articles exposing the impurities commonly found in Chinese, and to a lesser extent, US-produced creatine. However, quality from Chinese producers can vary. They use at least two different processes for making creatine, and I personally don’t always trust the quality control from batch to batch. So, yes, things have improved on some levels, but there are still some potential issues with Chinese producers that raise other concerns.
