Mammoth Meal

Company:
Mammoth Supplements

In the nineties, one of the hottest supplements used by bodybuilders were meal replacement powders (MRPs). These shakes had everything you needed in a meal but with the ultra-convenience of a shake. The two leading brands were Met-Rx and Myoplex. The formulas were very basic but combined carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to give you everything you needed to grow on. Unlike protein powders that mix thin and leave you still hungry afterward, MRPs really filled you up because of the carbs and fats contained in the formula. People got amazing results with MRPs because they took the guesswork out of eating. No longer did you have to think about how much protein you got or how many grams of carbs were in that bowl of brown rice or how many calories were in that burrito you shouldn’t have asked for cheese on. Dieting on MRPs allowed people to regulate their food intake right down to the gram! Thanks to our friends at Mammoth Supplements, the MRP is back on the bodybuilding scene! But unlike the original MRPs of the nineties, Mammoth Meal combines the latest in sports nutrition research to give you a second-generation MRP.

Fully Customizable

Mammoth Meal makes it easy to customize the calorie count thanks to what they call “E-Z Dose.” One scoop contains 100 calories, 2 scoops contains 200 calories, 3 contains—you guessed it—300 calories and so on! Protein content goes up by 10 grams and fats go up by 2.25-grams with each scoop. This versatility makes it perfect for men and women of different body sizes or those with different metabolic needs. If you’re more active, you need more calories to maintain your body weight; if you’re less active (say, on a rest day), you need fewer calories. Mammoth Meal’s E-Z Dose format makes it easy to grow!

Balanced Carb-to-Protein Ratio

Each scoop of Mammoth Meal contains an equal amount of protein (40 percent of all calories) and carbohydrates (40 percent of all calories). Two scoops contain 20 grams of protein and 20 grams of carbs. This was done to lower the glycemic response of the meal because protein delays the digestive rate of carbohydrates. Mammoth Meal also uses five different sources of protein to take on a different amino acid profile and to lower the glycemic response from the meal. Any time you can combine carbohydrates with proteins, you will reduce the speed of absorption of the carbohydrates, which is what’s been done in Mammoth Meal.

9 Whole-Food Carbs

The old-school MRPs of the nineties just had maltodextrin and lactose as their only carbohydrate sources. Thanks to how far we’ve come with food science over the last 20 years, bodybuilders and other athletes now have healthier carb options from whole foods. Mammoth Meal has nine carb sources: gluten-free oats, pea starch, sweet potato, and organic sources of oat bran, amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat, millet, and chia.

Fats

Like proteins, fats help slow down the absorption of carbs and protein and thus lower the glycemic response. They also help improve digestion of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and are involved in natural testosterone production. Mammoth Meal contains a blend of fats, including fast-burning coconut oil, which is rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and avocado oil, which provides long-chain triglycerides (LCTs).

Health Support

Aside from the macros, the formula has ingredients to improve overall health. Greek yogurt has been added for its probiotic function. Pink Himalayan sea salt supports proper hydration. And the superfoods pineapple, goji, açai, spirulina, barley grass, and even kale have been added for their antioxidants and natural detoxification properties. Mammoth Meal definitely takes the guesswork out of eating by giving you everything you need in one shake.

Taste Test

Of course, our favourite part about reviewing supplement is tasting them! We were the first ones in Canada to test out Mammoth Meal the day it came into their Canadian distributor’s warehouse! The first flavour was Chocolate Fudge Brownie, the second was Strawberry Shortcake, and the third was Vanilla Ice Cream. All mixed to a creamy shake and did so without the need for a blender (good job, guys). The smell and colour of all three were on point, and the taste was delicious. What blew our mind was the Strawberry Shortcake as it had real strawberry pieces inside, which reminded us of the original Strawberry Cream Myoplex MRP made by EAS in the nineties that we used to love! Overall Mammoth Meal did not disappoint, and we think this product is going to be a huge hit in 2019.
