BSN Syntha-6 Cold Stone Creamery Review

Company:
BSN

What do you get when you cross a protein supplement with one of the best ice-cream brands? A match made in fitness heaven, of course. BSN has unveiled its newest line of Syntha-6 protein, Cold Stone Creamery.

In a brilliant collaboration, BSN has teamed up with the famous manufacturer of one of the world’s most delicious frozen treats, Cold Stone Creamery. The result is a creation of the company’s cornerstone protein supplement, Syntha-6, in a number of decadent flavours. With a product lineup that already boasts a wide array of delicious choices for dessert lovers such as pumpkin pie and chocolate cake batter, the four new additions take the cake. Pun intended!

Shake It Up

Since 2004, Syntha-6 has been delivering its trademark milkshake-like flavours to the protein supplement market. The original lineup satisfied dessert cravings with an incredibly creamy texture that seemed unbeatable. That is, until now. BSN has been improving upon Syntha-6 for 14 years now, but rather than be satisfied with a perfect protein supplement, it’s now shaking things up by taking the product to the next level of dessert offerings.

One Scoop or Two?

The American ice-cream chain Cold Stone Creamery has been offering its famous ice cream and mix-ins since 1988. Clearly, they know a thing or two about quality and great-tasting ice cream. The collaboration is a new endeavour for both parties, but the result is undeniably brilliant. With a menu boosting four newcomers—Berry Berry Berry Good, Birthday Cake Remix, Germanchokolatekake, and Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip—there’s a taste experience for everyone.

Cold Stone is known for its smooth, creamy, rich ice creams that are prepared on a cold marble slab with a wide variety of “mix-ins.” These toppings are chopped and folded into your ice cream, allowing customers to create their own unique desserts. Not wanting to lose this aspect of the brand, the Syntha-6 Cold Stone Creamery products all include cookie crumbs—an evident nod to Cold Stone’s mix-ins concept.

Dessert, But Better

Whether you’re in a dieting phase or are enjoying your off-season, a healthful dessert option is always welcome. When you can have a dessert-like treat with 22 grams of protein per serving, it’s a bonus for your physique as well as your sweet tooth.

Syntha-6 Cold Stone Creamery flavours all provide 22 grams of protein per 47-gram scoop. The protein is a comprehensive blend of whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, calcium caseinate, micellar casein, milk protein isolate, and egg albumen. The blend combines fast-acting proteins with slower-digesting proteins, which makes it a viable option to use at any point throughout the day, and the mix also supports muscle protein synthesis for longer.

Each scoop contains 6 grams of fat and 15 grams of carbohydrates, of which 4 grams are sugars. While these macronutrients are higher than other protein powders, each flavour contains actual cookie pieces to be reminiscent of a true Cold Stone Creamery creation. The higher carb count can make this a better option to utilize in the pre- or post-workout time frame, where some extra carbs can be put directly to use by the working muscles.

An interesting inclusion in the protein blend are glutamine peptides. These molecules are bonded to other amino acids to make them highly bioavailable to the body and easily absorbed. Glutamine is abundant in muscle tissue but is quickly depleted by hard training. Efficiently replacing this amino can aid recovery between workouts, support muscle growth and repair, as well as help maintain muscle function for optimal performance.

We All Scream for Ice Cream

Do Syntha-6 Cold Stone Creamery proteins uphold their namesake? You bet. Mixing one scoop into a small amount of water (only 4 ounces are needed) yields a perfectly creamy drink with a rich flavour very true to their names. Chocolate lovers must try the Germanchokolatekake for one of the richest chocolate tastes on the market. Chocolate not your thing? Birthday Cake Remix goes beyond your basic vanilla flavour with a caramel undertone and a thicker texture than most protein shakes can provide.

As far as solubility goes, the powder completely dissolves, leaving behind an incredibly smooth texture with no chalky aftertaste to be found. The only “grit” you’ll find at the bottom of your shaker are the actual cookie pieces that fell to the bottom of your drink … meaning you’ll want to drink up every last drop!

If you’re looking for an even more decadent way to enjoy your protein, try mixing it into low- or nonfat milk, or even cashew milk to make a true milkshake. Or break out the blender and get fancy by making it into protein ice cream with plenty of ice and milk. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if you want to top it with sprinkles and whipped cream, though.

We’re left with only one question to ask: Which mix-ins are you going to choose?
