Shawn Wells Interviewed on the Supplement Engineer Podcast
Recently Muscle Insider’s very own Scott Welch interviewed sports nutrition genius Shawn Wells, who is the Chief Science Officer at NNB Nutrition. Shawn is without question one of the top supplement formulators in the world, and every time we interview him, we’re blown away by his knowledge. Shawn recently appeared on the Supplement Engineer Podcast, which you should definitely check out. On this episode, Shawn covers his “origin story” and what got him to where he is today as well as some of the difficulties he faced growing up as an overweight kid getting bullied and how junk food became his go-to when looking to hide from the world. About halfway through his time at Babson Business School, he started working out and learning about sports nutrition supplements. This developed into a complete obsession. After graduating from business school, Shawn Wells returned to school for his master’s degree in nutrition and biochemistry, with the desire to become a formulator.
After meeting with the school’s guidance counselor, who told him he would fail and should just stick to business, Shawn was devastated and even contemplated suicide. But he said “F— you” to the guidance counselor and went on to pursue his passion. We’re all grateful that he did, as he has impacted so many lives with the formulation work he’s done. Be it the 500-plus formulations he has been responsible for developing, or the 10 patented products he has been a part of, anyone who uses sports supplements has likely benefited from his work.Shawn goes on to share his experiences with psilocybin and we learn more about L-BAIBA (trade name: Mitoburn). This is known as an exercise mimic, which biochemically mimics the effects of intense exercise. Shawn and Robert go on to discuss some of their other favourite nootropics and much more.
