SCITEC Sells Company to Ascendis

SCITEC has sold their company to a South African firm called Ascendis Health for approximately 186,575,000 U.S. dollars (€170 million euros). This sale gives SCITEC even powder to continue their global growth and has SCITEC sponsored athletes like Shawn Rhoden and Ben Pakulski now part of a 2.8 billion dollar company with 1400 staff!

SCITEC is the number three sports nutrition brand in Europe; they’re growing nicely, they have a fantastic name in Europe, and they’re active in the US as well. We have the feeling SCITEC is a good brand, on to which we can also latch on our own brand and get more exposure for our current sports nutrition brands, and use the internationalization of SCITEC. We still see nice growth worldwide in sports nutrition, and in some markets even double-digit rates,” says Ascendis CEO Karsten Wellner.

Why Did Ascendis Buy SCITEC?

SCITEC produces more than 280 sports nutrition products, including Protein Ice Cream, Protein Pancakes mix and Protein Pudding, nut butters, and its Hot Blood, Head Crusher and Vita Greens ranges. SCITEC also has some of the fitness industry’s top athletes on their roster, including, but not limited to, Shawn Rhoden, Cedric McMillan, Fouad Abiad, Brandon Curry, Maxx Charles, Ben Pakulski, and dozens of others.

“They have a good spread of exposure and a good range of products—their products are very good quality, and have excellent taste. In sports nutrition, it’s not only the quality that’s important, but excellent taste—without the taste, your products won’t do well.” says Ascendis CEO Karsten Wellner.

SCITEC has a great variety of products in every country in the world (except Canada) and they began expanding into the US last year. In fact, many of you may remember the outstanding video series we did for SCITEC last year.

Ascendis Also Bought BOLUS Distribution

Ascendis owns several of their own sports supplement companies including EVOX, SSN, and SUPASHAPE. So expect to see Ascendis use the distribution network that SCITEC has built over the years to distribute these 3 supplement company’s products where it makes sense. But back in November of 2013, Ascendis purchased BOLUS Distribution which is a large supplement distributor in South Africa carrying brands like Inner Armour, Gaspari Nutrition, Bodylogix, MuscleTech, Myprotein, Nutrex and several others. So we expect to see the SCITEC family of products in the BOLUS Distribution pipeline in South Africa faster than you can say “Shawn Rhoden’s going to win the Olympia this year”.
