Pettis Brothers big UFC win
Magnum Nutraceuticals congratulates the Pettis brothers, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, and his younger brother, Sergio “The Phenom” Pettis on their wins at UFC 181.
The sponsored Pettis brothers fought on the same fight card at UFC 181, as Anthony defended his lightweight championship belt against Gilbert, “El Nino” Melendez, and Sergio squared off against Matt Hobar in their bantamweight bout.
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis successfully defended his lightweight championship belt for the first time, increasing his professional MMA record to 18-2. The long layoff from the octagon did not seem to affect him as he had just finished coaching the Ultimate Fighter Season 20. Pettis was dominating the standup fighting war leading to the finish, and submitted Gilbert Melendez via Guillotine choke at 1:53 seconds in the 2nd round.
When asked about his opinion on the fight, Pettis stated, “I feel like I had a great performance. Gil is a tough guy. Once I got to the striking range…I hit him with some nice jabs and I think I did enough to prove that I deserve the belt.”
Victory was sweet, yet another win Pettis added to his resume; recently voted the winner of a contest held by national brand Wheaties, his face now be found on the current Wheaties cereal box.
If this wasn’t enough for the Pettis name, his brother Sergio dominated his bantamweight bout in a unanimous decision win. Sergio displayed very quick hands as he was able to win the fight, both standing and on the ground. The younger Pettis brother defeated Matt Hobar, raising his record 12-1.
When asked about how he feels in the 135lb bantamweight division, he replied, “I’m like David fighting these goliaths.” Pettis is smaller than some of his fellow bantamweight competitors, but makes up for it with hand speed and excellent conditioning.
“I have been a long-time MMA and UFC fan and it is an honour to see the Pettis brothers represent Magnum Nutraceuticals so well. We are proud to have Anthony and Sergio Pettis as ambassadors for the brand because they work hard for everything that they have and really embody what it means to be a champion”, said Paul Teixeira, Director of Retail Development at Magnum Nutraceuticals.
We congratulate both Anthony and Sergio on their amazing performances and well-deserved wins.
