In the words of legendary writer Peter McGough, "(Inside the Shadow is) A fascinating documentary featuring six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates (1992-’97) was released in February. Entitled Inside The Shadow it was was made superbly by the LondonReal production company. It is a compelling account of Dorian’s career and character as it charts his rise to be the best bodybuilder in the world and how he has transitioned over the past near 20 years since he competed into the man he has become today. You really have to see the documentary and get a deep insight into the heart and soul of a lion."

In 2015, the Daily Express carried an explosive interview with six-time Mr Olympia Dorian Yates. Last night at BAFTA in Piccadilly, ‘London Real’ released their premiere of their new film about Britain’s most successful and controversial bodybuilder. From the merry-go-round of steroids, beating body dysmorphia, psychedelics, cannabis and yoga.

One of the most prevalent themese in the book was about body dismorphia, but also his life after competing. What to do as a former Olympian after threat of spiralling into depression when the god-like feeling of super-human strength and a physique to match gradually disappears before your eyes.

“I never had that worry [about losing my physique]... Maybe I’m unusual. I was removed. Like I was working on this statue, that I was working on this product and the way to build the product was through self-discipline and mastery over yourself and over your instincts.”

“A lot of people, especially the young guys, ask me, ‘When you look back at those photos, don’t you feel like ‘man I wish I looked like that now?’’ Not at all, that doesn’t apply to what I am doing now. I need a functional body that can cycle up hills. Before, I could lift 600lbs in squats and all incredible stuff in the gym but if I walked a couple of miles I’d probably get out of breath. So it’s just not practical for me now, that’s the way I look at it.

“As long as I’m in good physical shape, that’s a passion for me, to be physically fit. That’s the main thing now, the look is secondary. But I think I look OK, not too bad for a 55 year old.
