Vancouver, BC, June 14, 2019 – Muscle Insider’s annual deadlift contest, traditionally held in Ontario, has now made its way across the country to British Columbia. On June 29th, 2019, Muscle Insider will be holding its deadlift contest at West Coast Iron in Port Coquitlam, B.C. This event brings together men and women to test their own strength in performing their best lifts. Muscle Insider is proud to collaborate with title sponsor Precision Supplements to run this event, alongside the support of Popeye’s Supplements and West Coast Iron.

Over the years, this event has attracted lifters of all backgrounds including professional and amateur powerlifters, bodybuilders, student athletes, members of the 911 community, and avid gym-enthusiasts. As each try their hand at winning the best lift, Muscle Insider has witnessed 850 lifts, to a 385 pound hack deadlift by an 80 year old world record powerlifter. Prizes and door crashers will be provided by Precision Supplements. Entry fee is $20 dollars. Email janet@muscleinsider.com to register your spot in advance. Details for rules are below.

At this year’s event, men and women will be competing to see who can deadlift the most weight for a one-rep max. The other category for challengers to compete in will be deadlifts for reps.

DEADLIFT FOR REPS CONTEST RULES

  • The goal of this contest is to determine who has the best deadlift stamina.
  • The contest is simple; Whomever completes the most reps lifting the below weight classes wins.
  • Men will compete for the most reps with 135 lbs., 225 lbs., 315 lbs., 405 lbs., and 495 lbs.
  • Women will compete for the most reps with 135 lbs., 225 lbs., 315 lbs., and 405 lbs. (provided lifters "decide" to pull that much!)
  • During registration, all competitors must list which of the weight classes they will lift. Competitors can enter as many weight classes as they like.
  • Contest will start with the lightest weight class (lifting 135 lbs.) and progress to the heaviest weight class (lifting 495 lbs.).
  • Competitors only have one attempt to get as many reps as possible in each weight class.
  • A champion will be awarded for each class.
  • Lifter must slightly rest the weight on the floor between each rep, no bouncing the rep at the bottom.
  • The lifter’s hands must be on the bar at all times during the set. If a lifter removes their hands from the bar, no further reps will count.
  • Lifter must lower the weight under control. Dropping the weight will disallow the rep.
  • Straps are NOT allowed. Belt and chalk are allowed.
  • Socks MUST be worn for sanitation.
  • Workout pants, knee-high socks or tights that cover the front of the shins must be worn to prevent potential scraping of shins.
  • Any downward movement of the bar before lockout will disallow the rep.
  • Lifter cannot rest the weight on their thighs while still attempting to lift the weight.
  • The lifter must stand erect before lowering the weight.
  • Both sumo and conventional form will be allowed. Lifter can change form during set provided hands do not leave the bar at any time.
  • Lifters cannot rest excessively between reps. Referee will give one warning if this is abused. Continuing to rest at the bottom of a rep after referee’s warning will result in disqualification.
  • Rolling bar towards lifter before the rep starts is not allowed.
  • There is no tolerance for unsportsmanlike conduct both on and off the platform. Any aggressive or inappropriate behaviour will disqualify the lifter from competition.

ONE REP MAX DEADLIFT CONTEST RULES

  • The goal of this contest is simply to determine who is the strongest deadlifter in the room.
  • There will be a male class and a female class.
  • This is an open bodyweight and height contest with no restrictions on either.
  • The contest is simple; whomever pulls the most weight for 1 rep wins.
  • During registration, all lifters must set their opening lift.
  • Contest will progress in chronological order from the person with the lowest opening lift to the person with the highest opening lift.
  • If competitor fails to complete their opening lift, they will have one (1) additional attempt (within 5 minutes) to complete their opening lift.
  • Once every lifter has completed their opening lift, the highest opening weight lifted becomes the current record weight to beat.
  • All competitors must lift the current record weight (or more) to remain in the contest.
  • If a competitor lifts more than the current record weight, that becomes the new current record weight. As such, all competitors must lift the current record weight (or more) to remain in contest.
  • Weight will not be decreased below current record weight unless there is a tie in the top 3 placings.
  • Lifters can attempt to beat the current heaviest weight lifted with 3 attempts. These attempts must be done within a reasonable time between attempts which will be at the referee’s discretion to approve. If they fail to lift the weight, their previous best lift stands as their recorded best lift that day.
  • Warmup lifts must be done on the side off the competition platform.
  • Lifter must lower the weight under control. Dropping the weight will disallow the rep.
  • Straps are NOT allowed. Belt and chalk are allowed.
  • Socks MUST be worn for sanitation.
  • Workout pants, socks or tights that cover the front of the shins must be worn to prevent potential scraping of shins.
  • Any downward movement of the bar before lockout will disallow the rep.
  • Lifter cannot rest the weight on their thighs while still attempting to lift the weight.
  • The lifter must stand erect before lowering the weight.
  • Both sumo and conventional form are allowed.
