Iain Valliere to Work with Matt Jansen in 2023

IFBB Pro League bodybuilder Iain Valliere finished as high as seventh place in the Mr. Olympia contest in his career. That was his placing in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately, he slipped down to 11th place at the 2022 edition of bodybuilding’s biggest contest. The former Vancouver Pro winner has a new strategy in place, and it includes reuniting with a former coach.
He will be reuniting with his former coach, Matt Jansen, who he had worked with in the past. Jansen is also one of the owners of Raw and Revive, which sponsor Valliere. Leading up to the 2022 Olympia, he worked with Patrick Tuor. Valliere made his 2023 intentions clear in a YouTube video that was published on his channel on March 9th, which you can see in its entirety below.
“I have chosen to team back up with Matt Jansen. It’s a very exciting change for me,” said Valliere. “Matt and I worked together from 2015 to 2019. I won my first pro show with Matt. I did my first Olympia with Matt. There’s a lot of history there.”
Jansen has become one of the more renowned coaches in bodybuilding in recent years, thanks in part to his success with Valliere during those years he mentioned. Jansen also works with 2021 Arnold Classic champion Nick Walker and two-time Olympia 212 Champion Shaun Clarida, among others.
Valliere also shared when his next contest will be – the 2023 Toronto Pro Supershow. That competition will take place on June 4th. He has competed in this competition three times in his career. He finished in fifth place in 2015, seventh in 2016, and he took second to Jon Delarosa in 2019.
Valliere had said in the past that this contest is one he wants to win, and the stakes are higher now than in his previous showings. The only way to qualify for the 2023 Mr. Olympia is to win a show. Without the Olympia Qualification points system in place, finishing second or worse means nothing. If Valliere was to win in Toronto to qualify for the Olympia, that would give him five months to prepare for the Olympia, scheduled for the weekend of November 2nd through 5th in Orlando, Florida. If he doesn’t win, he would have to find another contest to enter if he wants to qualify for the Olympia.
It will be interesting to see how Valliere performs onstage in 2023. In previous years, he had also worked as a coach for his brother-in-law, Chris Bumstead. Now, Bumstead works with Hany Rambod, and Valliere has limited his workload as a trainer or coach. This combined with reuniting with Jansen could prove to be a winning combination in 2023.
