Hafthor Thor Bjornsson Tests Positive For COVID 19
Hafthor “Thor” Björnsson tests positive for COVID-19 about a week or so after his exhibition boxing match in Dubai against pro boxer Steven Ward. He made the announcement on his Instagram account on January 24, 2021. After testing negative a few days before, Björnsson began to feel ill which prompted him to take another test where he eventually tested positive. In his Instagram post, Björnsson states,
“This is no joke. Stay safe, people! I don’t wish this on anyone. Hopefully, the world will be in a better place soon.”
He will now be isolating for two weeks and taking some time to get better.
In what was Björnsson’s boxing debut, he was actually training for another boxing match against fellow strongman Eddie Hall scheduled to take place September 18, 2021, in Las Vegas, NV. In the process, Hafthor Bjornsson has revealed that he has lost an incredible 110lb!
With a number of athletes around the world to contract COVID-19, Björnsson is not the first professional strongman to test positive. Both Konstantine Janashia and Aaron Page tested positive for the virus. Unfortunately, Aron was placed in a medically induced coma and passed away not long there after on Nov. 20, 2020.
Björnsson, a three-time Arnold Strongman Classic Champion and 2018 World’s Strongest Man winner officially retired after winning his 10th Iceland’s Strongest Man title last year in August 2020.
We wish the retired Strongman icon and his family all the best and a speedy recovery.
