Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not only known for his large and jacked stature, and great smile, but he’s also known for quick wit and biting humor. What some people don’t know, is that he’s also the Co-founder and face of Seven Bucks Productions.

This year, the production company has taken on a new venture with indie film, “Fighting With My Family”. The film is based on Max Fisher’s 2012 documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family, which explores Saraya-Jade Bevis’ journey to becoming WWE sensation Paige.

Born into a wrestling family, Paige and her brother Zak get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try out for the WWE. But only Paige earns a spot in the competitive training program. Paige must now decide to leave her close-knit family and loved ones behind and face this new journey alone. Paige has to push through and find what makes her a star among so many other competitors.

This story is close to home for Dwayne whose a third-generation wrestler. His grandfather was wrestler Peter Maivia and father is Rocky Johnson. When Dwayne first appeared in wrestling, the fans hated him. They thought he was just meat with teeth. But one day, Dwayne realized he wasn’t being authentic to himself. Fans couldn’t get behind a character he was pretending to be. So Dwayne re-emerged as The Rock, the authentic version of himself.

When Dwayne first heard this story, he knew immediately that he wanted to produce it. Stephen Merchant then joined as writer, director, and actor. Stephen and Dwayne first met during the movie Tooth Fairy.

Fighting With My Family first debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and opened in theaters this past weekend.
