If you’ve ever been to a gym, you know to expect clanging, loud music, sweat, and muscle shirts … the ambiance and recipe for gains. What you don’t expect is being assaulted or attacked--especially mid-lift--which is exactly what happened to Charles-Antoine Lalonde.

The 19 year old was filming himself deadlifting in Buzzfit Gym in Montreal for remote weightlifting coach Peter Rubish when he was allegedly assaulted by a middle-aged man wearing an “Animal” shirt. The man angrily confronted Lalonde while he was holding about 350 pounds and was strapped into the bar. It was not clear if the perpetrator was acting on behalf of the gym.

The man’s membership was reportedly revoked and another employee, who can be seen watching in the background yet did nothing to stop it, was suspended.

Craig Johnson, head of operations for Buzzfit gyms, explained to the Montreal Gazettethat Lalonde was lifting at an elite level, and that their facilities were not equipped for his needs, however the video seems to indicate otherwise.
