Like Dad, Hunter Labrada Gets His Pro Card
Houston’s Hunter Labrada, son of Hall of Fame bodybuilder Lee Labrada, fended off massive Shawn Smith in the super-heavyweight class and then went on to take the overall title at the NPC Nationals on Nov. 17 in Miami. Labrada, 24, bookended the win after taking the overall at the Junior USAs earlier this year.
While acknowledging the role his famous father had on his career, the younger Labrada told audiences his win wasn’t one that came easily. “At the end of the day my last name didn’t eat seven meals a day and train my ass into the dirt every single day for the last seven years, or give me the discipline I have.”
The senior Labrada, born in Cuba, won 22 professional titles during his IFBB career and finished runner-up twice at the Mr. Olympia, retiring in 1995. That year he formed Labrada Nutrition, which he still runs today.
Here’s wishing Hunter the best of luck as he starts his new career as an IFBB pro!
