Brock Lesnar Fails Drug Test
UFC fighter Brock Lesnar has failed a drug test issued by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency). The urine sample came back with a positive for a banned substance on July 14 and flagged for the violation, which was reported to the UFC.
“We’ll get to the bottom of this,” Brock Lesnar said in a statement released to the Associated Press.
Lesnar also provided the press with copies of letters from three previous tests by USADA informing him that he had NOT been flagged for any of those samples. However, passing a drug test in the past doesn’t make your current drug test clean!
Following Lesnar’s response, USADA spokesman Ryan Madden also issued a statement confirming that the former champion had not been flagged for any previous tests, but the June 28 sample came back positive for a banned substance.
“With Mr. Lesnar having spoken publicly about the issue, I can confirm that he has been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28, 2016,” Madden told FOX Sports. “I can also confirm that the results from his previous samples collected by USADA were all reported as negative. Although USADA will not be providing any further specifics of the case at this time, I can tell you that Mr. Lesnar — as with every athlete under the UFC anti-doping policy — will be provided full due process under the rules.”
Lesnar can request that the second urine sample collected from the June 28 drug test also be tested to ensure accuracy, and he’s also afforded a full appeals process under the rules of the UFC anti-doping policy.
Brock Lesnar Was Once Arrested For Illegally Possessing Steroids
We all know that Lesnar is a genetic freak and trains like an animal. He's an amazing athlete no doubt. As with any elite athlete of his size, Brock's been accused of doping throughout his career. According to website The Smoking Gun, Brock Lesnar was once arrested for illegally possessing steroids in January 2001. Lesnar was arrested by Louisville Division of Police detectives after receiving and opening a parcel that cops said contained a 'large amount of steroids.' Lesnar was in Kentucky training at a WWE facility. Hit with a trafficking in controlled substances charge, Lesnar was exonerated when tests showed that the seized pills were not, in fact, steroids. While a Louisville detective told The Smoking Gun that the material was some kind of growth hormone, Lesnar's defense attorney, Scott Cox, characterized the confiscated pills as a “vitamin type of thing.” According to Cox, officers seemed 'very apologetic' when lab results cleared Lesnar.
What Caused Brock Lesnar’s Failed Drug Test?
Lesnar hasn’t yet revealed what banned substance was flagged from his sample and USADA will not release information on the substance until he either goes public or the adjudication process is finalized. Will he claim a “supplement” he took unknowingly caused this failed drug test? Will doctor prescribed Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) be to blame? What was the banned substance? Only time will tell.
