Happy Birthday Arnold

The man who proved the “American Dream” is real turns 74 today. Born Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger on July 30, 1947, "the Austrian Oak" lived in the small town of Thal, near Graz, Austria in a house that had no plumbing or phone. Speaking little English, Arnold set foot on American soil in 1968 at the age of 21 and never looked back. He went on to become the biggest name in bodybuilding and changed the way people viewed physical activity. He won the Mr. Universe title 4 times (1 Amateur and 3 Pro titles) and the Mr. Olympia 7 times. When he wasn’t pumping iron and winning bodybuilding competitions, he studied business and acting. By the time the 1990s rolled around, he was the highest paid action hero of the times.

He went on to married into American royalty when he exchanged nuptials in 1986 with Maria Shriver, the niece of President John F Kennedy. They have four children together.

Having conquered bodybuilding, business and acting, Arnold tried his hand at politics and soon Schwarzenegger was elected the 38th Governor of the state of California in 2003 as a Republican. He held that office till 2011.

Arnold continues to make movies and voice his opinions on politics and is very much involved in the fitness industry through his Arnold Sports Festivals which take place one a year on every continent.
