Arnold Schwarzenegger Heart Surgery Update
It was shocking to hear that Arnold Schwarzenegger had recently gone in for another heart surgery, but we are thrilled to hear that he “feels fantastic.” It was only a couple of years ago when Arnold was admitted to the hospital in March of 2018 for emergency open-heart surgery. The 2018 surgery was to replace his pulmonic valve. At the time, Schwarzenegger was just four months out from the start of shooting Terminator: Dark Fate. After a routine physical, his doctor convinced Arnold to undergo a non-invasive operation, which would allow him to get back to his training for the movie in just about one week’s time. When all was said and done, the procedure did not go as planned, and he could have died.
Arnold spoke to graduates earlier this year to say, “When I woke up from the surgery, I woke up 16 hours later, instead of 4 hours. There was a tube sticking out of my mouth, and then the doctor moved forward and ripped the tube out of my mouth. I was coughing violently, and he says, ‘Just keep coughing and then let us tell you what happened.’
They told me that they had to do an emergency surgery, that something went wrong during this kind of non-invasive procedure, then it became very invasive. They said they broke through the heart wall, and there was internal bleeding, and I could have died if they didn’t open up my sternum and do open heart surgery. So imagine: the day before I was in the hospital, I was training really hard for Terminator 6, and now all of sudden they’re telling me that they saved my life.”
After making a full recovery from this open-heart surgery, Arnold has resumed all his regular activities such as weight training, cycling through town, and hosting the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio every March. Schwarzenegger’s recent heart surgery was done to give him a new aortic valve, to go along with the pulmonary valve which was replaced in 2018. He shared a bit of detail on his recovery in a recent post on his Instagram page.
“Thanks to the team at the Cleveland Clinic, I have a new aortic valve to go along with my new pulmonary valve from my last surgery. I feel fantastic and have already been walking the streets of Cleveland enjoying your amazing statues. Thank you to every doc and nurse on my team!“
To see him once again bounce back from heart surgery like this makes you start to wonder if he really is indestructible like the Terminator. It’s great to see him enjoying the sights and statues throughout Cleveland, as part of his recovery.
