Antoine Vaillant Hospitalized From Ankle Injury

It was nearly two years ago that Antoine Vaillant suffered a bicep tear, leading up to stepping on stage for the 2019 New York Pro and the 2019 Toronto Pro SuperShow. Now, just a couple of months after his very impressive showing at the 2020 Mr. Olympia contest in Orlando, Florida, he has recently been hospitalized to deal with an ankle injury.

Antoine has gained a large and loyal following on social media, much in part because he shares a great deal of his personal life. Images shared to his Instagram stories showed his ankle bandaged and goes on to explain what had happened. As he has arthritis, bone spurs, and scar tissue in his ankle, he was in the hospital for a minimally invasive surgical procedure, called an arthroscopy, on his ankle.

Vaillant explained, “What I had was an arthroscopy because I have arthritis in my ankles and I have bone spurs and a lot of scar tissue. So we had to get that taken care of.”

Antoine also shared details that he required an epidural leading into the procedure. This left him without the ability to feel anything below the waist or to walk for a short time. A standard arthroscopic surgery usually requires only a couple of weeks to recover. We are confident that Vaillant will make a full and quick recovery, as he is already back in the gym, making sure to take it easy and follow the surgeon’s orders to keep his foot elevated.
