You Can’t Cardio Away Stupid

Yep, that’s right. Although so many of you try to do just that: make a stupid decision, then figure you can just cardio it away like it never happened. Nice try and I applaud your effort, but WTF? Simply do what you’re supposed to do, and this will never be an issue.

Remember, if you’re competing, you’re eating for a look, so the cardio isn’t going to control that damage. If you’re just trying to be balanced and healthy, you’re losing your balance. Don’t let yourself get crazy with the cardio when you’re trying to be healthy. Remember that your goal should be to maintain both a mental and physical health that you’re comfortable with. Stupid decisions with your diet can’t be corrected with additional cardio.

I had a girl once hit a 6,000-calorie binge then wrap her body in Saran Wrap and do three hours of cardio. True story and truly stupid. The damage done from that type of binge can be substantial. You’re wrecking the metabolism you’re trying so desperately to manipulate and causing damage to your adrenal system, which can cause lots of additional problems.

In addition to the metabolic damage, think about the physical damage. I have too many girls who end up overtrained because they’re doing far more than I am aware of from a cardio standpoint. If the program calls for 45 minutes and you’re doing 60 to account for the four Hershey’s Kisses you ate today, you’re going to have problems. Common things such as tendonitis occur frequently for these girls. Ankles, knees, and even gout in the feet are starting to become common issues with these people, not to mention lower back pain from the constant pounding the body is taking with weight training and overtraining of cardio.

So let’s review: Do what you’re told. Do it right. Do it with purpose and passion, and remember, you can’t cardio away stupid!
