Phat Camp is a fitness camp weekend for all women of all ages, sizes, fitness levels, and goals.  Former Fitness International Champion, Olympia Champion, Enterpeuneur, and school teacher Jen Hendershott started phat camp 12 years ago.  Jen started this company with a simple idea of helping women feel good, look good, and the drive to wanna live good. This love and passion paved the way for women and fitness champions like Nicole Wilkins to step up 12 years later and take over something so amazing. In fall of 2013, Jen approached Nicole, a current International and Olympia champion, with the idea of taking over Phat Camp. After many conversations and ideas shared, they have decided to team up and to make this bigger and better. They said, “Let’s work together and go BIG!” In 2014 they will travel the world together to not only make a bigger impact on women’s lives, but to touch more generations.

The following is a first hand account of Aeryon Ashlie's experience attending PHAT camp under both Jen and Nicole's supervision. She helped the women host the camp, and helped bring them to British Columbia.

I did Phat camp over 10 years ago in Calgary and quickly realized it was not just fitness camp. I left feeling inspired, motivated and ready to take on my goals, along with a sore body from amazing workouts.
When I first moved to Vancouver 6 years ago I hosted camp for 3 years. Then had a baby and life kind of took over, when I saw Jen at the Arnold's in 2012 we talked about bringing Phat Camp back to Vancouver for 2014. So April 4-6th we had Jen and Nicole at Gold's Gym Burnaby where 40 ladies participated in this amazing weekend. We are already excited and planning next year’s Phat camp here in Vancouver spring of 2015.

This camp is not just a weekend of working out - You don't have to be a competitor or a fitness guru, women come from all walks of life. It is a camp that inspires you to be the best you can be, to love yourself wherever you are, and continue in the process of improving. Jen has an enthusiasm and joy that is contagious! Nicole is so sweet, down to earth, and it is inspiring to see them go through the same struggles we all go through.

I find I leave inspired, motivated, and blessed to have met amazing women from all walks of life who love health and fitness and are working towards their fitness goals. Some have a goal of competing and some don't, but everyone has an amazing time working hard together, laughing and sharing their stories.

Itinerary:

  • Friday Night: Booty Camp, then a self esteem exercise
  • Saturday morning: Training (Chest and Triceps), diet and supplementation seminar
  • Saturday afternoon/evening: More training (Back and Biceps), then a Q & A session.
  • Sunday morning: Training (Shoulders)
  • Sunday afternoon: Posing at lunch, more Q&A, and finished off with Legs.

What I learned:

  • Nicole cuts all sweeteners out pre contest. No gum either - It all adds up.
  • She takes 1 full day off from training and cardio each week to rest
  • She had to run for 2 hours every day last year to bring her legs in to match her upper body; 1 hr in the morning and 1 at night steady state running.
  • Whatever you want, it is ultimately up to you. Only you control your actions. Be the best you can be!!
