Anybody's Game: A movie review
“Most people can understand the phrase; “Eat clean. Train dirty.” It embodies everything that most fitness athletes live by. A healthy nutrition plan accompanied by a challenging workout is the key to success in the fitness world. But what exactly does that entail?”
Director’s statement from Anybody’s Game
“Any Body's Game: Follow along with two competitors and their peers as they test their dedication and commitment in their pursuit of hitting the fitness stage!"
From director Matt Perkins comes an intriguing documentary about the competition preparations of 2 novice athletes. For 12 weeks, viewers follow the arduous journey of Freddy Lugo, first time competitor, and Julia Wyper, second time competitor, as they prepare for the Fitness New England Championships. Guided by their coaches, Rob Knox for Freddy, and Cathy Savage for Julia, the competitors discuss the challenges, struggles, and uplifting moments of their prep. The coaches offer not only diet and training advice, but lifestyle coaching as well; encouraging the athletes not to make competition their life, it's just one facet of it.
The movie was enjoyable, and with a running time of just under 43min, it gives you a pretty good insight in such a short time frame into what it's like to balance life with training for your competition.
They talk about their self-doubt, their small victories, the big battles, all relative to their competitive life. It’s so refreshing, from my perspective, to see a movie that doesn’t try to glorify competition; it’s dirty, it’s sweaty, it sucks, but in the end it’s worth it. I found that the movie really captured that.
The message of the movie, overall? “Here At InsidersHealth, We hope to inspire all those that watch our documentary to get up off the couch and live a healthier life.
