Canadas Best Chances To Win The 2023 Fitness International

By:
By Roger “Rock” Lockridge

One of the most popular contests at the Arnold Classic is the Fitness International. The combination of impressive physiques and inspiring routines keeps fans engaged and interested in seeing more. The world-class athletes always bring their best to the Columbus stage, and the contest scheduled for Mar. 2nd through 5th will be no different.

The contest will feature nine of the IFBB Pro League’s elite, including the 2022 champion, Ariel Khadr. Included in that field are two Canadian competitors – Terra Plum and Tamara Vahn. The full roster is below.

  • Jaclyn Baker
  • Tiffany Chandler
  • Michelle Freda-Mensah
  • Ariel Khadr
  • Allison Kramer
  • Minna Pajulahti
  • Terra Plum
  • Kristin Pope
  • Tamara Vahn

Canada’s Chances

Missy Truscott is the defending Olympia champion, and she has won the Arnold twice in the past. She won’t be in this year’s contest, but she serves as evidence that an athlete from Canada can win this contest. Plum and Vahn both hope to follow in her footsteps in 2023. If either competitor were able to win the show, it would be the first time that two different Canadians held the Arnold and Olympia titles at the same time.

Terra Plum

Plum is coming off a tenth-place finish at the 2022 Fitness Olympia, which is a big step in her career. 2022 could be considered a breakout year for her. She is no stranger to winning Arnold shows, either. Among her two victories last year was the Arnold Classic UK contest. She also placed first in the Arizona Pro. Plum turned pro in Vancouver back in 2018, and she has four pro wins in total. This will be her first time competing under the bright lights of the Battelle Grand Ballroom, but her top ten finish in Las Vegas proved she can handle the big stages. A top five finish would not be a surprise.

Tamara Vahn

Vahn was sixth at the Olympia, and she was fifth in this contest back in 2022. She scored a victory in Puerto Rico Pro last year, and she has two wins to her credit as an IFBB Pro League athlete. It’s very likely that her second appearance in Columbus will be more successful than her first. Out of the athletes in this lineup, the only competitors that beat her at the Olympia were Jaclyn Baker (2nd), Khadr (3rd), and Michelle Fredua-Mensah (5th).  Vahn could very well place top three in this contest, and since two-thirds of the scoring comes from the routine, anything can happen.
