Canadas Best Chances To Win The 2022 Olympia - Ms. Olympia

By:
Roger “Rock” Lockridge

In the history of the Ms. Olympia contest, no Canadian has ever won that prestigious title. Could that change in 2022? The reigning titleholder is Andrea Shaw, and she’s considered by far to be the favorite to three-peat in Las Vegas on Friday, December 16th. She will face 20 challengers, including two Canadian athletes when she steps onstage in Las Vegas. The full lineup of qualified athletes is below, as listed on the Olympia website.

  • Andrea Shaw (USA)
  • Helle Trevino (USA)
  • Margie Martin (USA)
  • Nadia Capostosto (Italy)
  • MayLa Ash (USA)
  • Eva Montgomery (USA)
  • Theresa Ivancik (USA)
  • Donna Salib (USA)
  • Lisa Kudrey (Canada)
  • Danielle Willis (USA)
  • Reshanna Boswell (USA)
  • Leyvina Rodrigues Barros (Brazil)
  • Branka Njegovec (Croatia)
  • Michaela Aycock (USA)
  • Angela Teo (USA)
  • Chelsea Dion (USA)
  • Asha Hadley (USA)
  • Alcione Santos Barreto (Brazil)
  • Stephanie Flesher (USA)
  • Michelle Jin (USA)
  • Mona Poursaleh (Canada)

Canada's Chances

Mona Poursaleh

Poursaleh could be an X-factor in this contest. She won the Tampa Pro in 2021, and she finished in fourth place in the Ms. Olympia, which was her first trip to the Olympia stage. However, she hasn’t won a show in 2022. She qualified for the Olympia on points, and she managed to finish in fifth place at the 2022 Rising Phoenix World Championship in November (Shaw won). Poursaleh is a renowned poser, and she even won the Best Poser award at the Rising Phoenix. If you’re a top-four Olympia finisher, then you have to be considered a worthy contender to the champion, but Shaw has been so dominant that it’s hard to see her being beaten. Poursaleh could be in the mix for a top three finish if she shows up at her all-time best, but Shaw would have to make a big mistake to lose the title this year.

Lisa Kudrey

Kudrey won the 2022 Toronto Pro to earn her ticket to the Olympia, and it will be her debut on bodybuilding’s biggest stage. She was first in a lineup of four athletes that also included Michelle Jin, another Olympia qualified competitor. This will be her first time facing off against athletes that are considered the best in the world. It will be difficult for Kudrey to stand out in this lineup, but anything and everything happens at the Olympia. If Kudrey would manage to break into the top ten, it would be a big success for her.
