Canadas Best Chances to Win the 2022 Olympia - Fitness

By:
Roger “Rock” Lockridge

The 2022 Fitness Olympia is going to be among the most entertaining divisions of the entire weekend. The physique is only one third of the scoring, with the other two thirds coming from their routines, which showcase the best athleticism in the world.

Canada has had a previous champion in this division, Missy Truscott. She now calls the USA home, but there are still multiple Canadian athletes in this lineup of 20 world-class competitors. Let’s break down the lineup and see what the odds are of someone from Canadian roots taking the title. The lineup below is from the Olympia website as they are listed.

  • Missy Truscott (USA)
  • Allison Kramer (USA)
  • Michelle Fredua-Mensah (UK)
  • Whitney Jones (USA)
  • Oksana Grishina (Russia)

Canada's Chances

Missy Truscott

The former Olympia and Arnold Classic champ has been working on her physique a lot in the offseason, and she’s always put on a captivating routine. She will have to face both 2021 Olympia winner Whitney Jones and 2022 Arnold Classic champ Ariel Khadr if she wants to reclaim the spot of number one fitness athlete on the planet. Then, there’s Oksana Grishina, the four-time Olympia champion, who can very well take number five this year. Truscott lives in the U.S.A. now, but with her Canadian roots, she would be the Canadian most likely to take the title.

Tamara Vahn

Vahn won in Puerto Rico to earn her Olympia qualification, and she placed fifth at the Arnold Classic in March. She was in the top six at last year’s Olympia, and will likely be there again this year. She would have to score very high on both rounds of competition if a top five or even top three finish is in the cards for her. That said, it is possible for Vahn, and she would be a wild card to keep your eyes on.

Terra Plum

Plum is a former Ben Weider Natural winner and she won the 2022 Arnold Classic UK contest to earn her ticket to Las Vegas this year. This will be her second Olympia appearance, with her other being in 2020. She placed 12th that year. She could move up to the top ten this year, which would set her up nicely for 2023.

Abby Bolton

Bolton is your 2022 Vancouver Pro winner, and she will make her Olympia debut this year. The second-year pro won the 2019 North Americans, but she took 2020 off. She doesn’t have much pro contest experience, and the big stage may prove to be too big for her this year. However, anything can happen at the Olympia. A top 15 finish would be nice for her, but she will likely shoot for top 10, as she should.

Danielle DaCosta

This competitor took top three finishes in both Toronto and Vancouver, and she won the 2022 Ben Weider Natural show in Alexandria, VA. This will also be her Olympia debut, and the experience of standing onstage with the best in the world can help her for 2023 and beyond. Like Bolton, her goal will likely be top 10, but a top 15 finish would be nothing to be ashamed of for her first time on bodybuilding’s biggest stage.
