Canada’s Chances

Lola Montez

Lola Montez won the 2022 Boston Pro and placed third at the Figure International. She was ninth in the 2021 Olympia, but there’s a good chance she will break into the top six this year. She’s gradually improved every year she’s been a pro since winning that status at the 2018 Arnold Amateur. She may not be able to defeat Gillon, but this could be the year she arrives as an elite competitor in the division.

Valerie Ratelle

Ratelle is a second-year pro that has one win and another top three finish this season. She won in Vancouver and placed third in the Toronto Pro to winner Hanwool Park. Ratelle can even the score with Park by placing higher at the Olympia, which will be her first. To have two Canadians in the top 15 at this contest would be a big feat, and Ratelle has that potential if her prep goes to her liking.

Maggie Watson

Watson’s victory at the 2022 Hurricane Pro was her first as a pro, and it also came with her first Olympia qualification. She was also third in Tampa, which was won by Jessica Reyes Padilla, who is a perennial Olympia contender. So, Watson knows what it’s like to share the stage with some of the best in her division. Now, it’s a matter of her proving she is one of them. A top 15 finish would be realistic, and she could even leave Las Vegas with a top ten finish if things go her way.
