Canada's Chances
Jennifer Dorie
The defending champion will be facing three past winners of the Olympia this year: Janet Layug (2020), Elisa Pecini (2019, and Ashley Kaltwasser (2012-2014). She now lives in Las Vegas, which can be beneficial to her because she won’t need to travel. Being the same as she was in 2021 won’t help her this year because Chapados has gotten significantly better in the past year. She will have to be better, but she can certainly do that.
Lauralie Chapados
Chapados won the 2022 Bikini International, Pittsburgh Pro, and New York Pro this year alone. She’s considered by many to be the number one contender to Dorie, and some fans think she will take the title. That winning mindset from taking three shows in a row will certainly help her going into the contest, but this will be the first time she stood next to Dorie since last year’s Olympia. That initial callout between the two will tell you all you need to know about her chances this year. In short, she can win, but it is a matter of if she will.
Jourdanne Lee
Lee was in 13th last year, but she won the 2022 Legion Sports Fest to return to the Olympia this year. Many people felt that was her best physique to date, which could help her make her way up to the top ten. To share a top ten lineup with four past champions and maybe a fifth champion if Chapados wins would be a nice feather in her hat going into 2023.
Shenese Case, Maia Gordon, Marie-Eve Duchesneau
Case, Gordon, and Duchesneau were absent from the 2021 Olympia lineup, but Gordon was in the 2020 contest, finishing out of the top 15. Case and Duchesneau will make their Olympia debuts. It will be hard to stand out in this kind of lineup with so many world-class athletes alongside you, but they can all realistically be top 15 finishers if the cards fall in their favor. The only way to maximize their chances is to train and prepare as if it will happen for them.
