2024 Rising Phoenix Predictions

Contest Coverage Sponsored by MUTANT!

The 2024 Rising Phoenix is no longer the top title in women’s bodybuilding thanks to the return of the Ms. Olympia contest in 2020. However, it has still been a major title in the division as the Arnold Classic has been on the men’s side of the stage.

The 10th edition of this contest will be held in Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, August 24th, and there are 12 IFBB Pro Women’s Bodybuilding athletes vying to leave the stage as champion. If the winner is not Olympia-qualified, then she earns her chance to compete in the 2024 Ms. Olympia in Las Vegas on the weekend of Oct. 11th and 12th as well. The full field is below.

  • Irene Andersen
  • Mayla Ash
  • Leyvina Rodrigues Barros
  • Reshanna Boswell
  • Desunka Dawson
  • Julia Foery
  • Selyka Givan
  • Sheena Ohlig
  • Sherry Priami
  • Andrea Shaw
  • Julia Whitesel
  • Angela Yeo

Four-Time Reigning Champion – Andrea Shaw

Since the 2020 Rising Phoenix, the sport has been dominated by Andrea Shaw, who goes into this competition as the four-time defending champion and four-time Ms. Olympia. Every time she takes a stage, she has an opportunity to make history and add to her own incredible legacy.

She is already the only four-time Rising Phoenix winner. If she gets one for the thumb in both contests, then she will extend her own record for the most wins in the Rising Phoenix and be the fifth woman to hold five Ms. Olympia titles. Our guess is Shaw’s favorite number lately has been five.

Top Contenders

Angela Yeo

Angela Yeo finished second behind Shaw in both the Rising Phoenix and the Olympia in 2023. She has established herself as the number one contender for both titles. She has not competed yet in 2024, but we are confident she has been putting in work to bring a new version of her physique to the stage in Arizona. Imagine the momentum she could have going into the Olympia if she were able to defeat the champ in the Rising Phoenix. Anything is possible, but we feel Shaw would have to be off the mark in order for Yeo to take advantage.

Sherry Priami

Sherry Priami was fourth in the 2023 Ms. Olympia, and she has already competed twice in 2024. She was the runner-up in the Mr. Big Evolution Pro, and she won the Chicago Pro title. She was seventh in the Rising Phoenix in 2023, but she has proven to be much better this season. A top three finish is certainly in the cards for her.

Dark Horses

Julia Whitesel

Julia Whitesel was at the bottom of the top 10 in the 2023 Ms. Olympia, and she did not even compete in the Rising Phoenix last year. However, she showed herself to be a threat to the top of the field in the 2024 Vancouver Island Showdown Pro. Whitesel has a real shot at the top five and may even bump up to the top three if the cards fall in her favor.

Mayla Ash

The next highest finisher from the Olympia in this show is Mayla Ash, who was seventh in 2023. She took home fourth in the 2023 Rising Phoenix, but she has placed as high as second as recently as 2022. She is one of the few pros in the lineup that has over 10 years of experience, but that could serve her well. Ash has not won a show in 2024.

Leyvina Rodrigues Barros

This competitor got a lot of attention when she placed second at the 2024 New York Pro. Leyvina Rodrigues Barros is a newcomer to the sport, and she will make her Rising Phoenix debut. There are several established veterans in this lineup, and they should keep an eye on Barros because she could work her way up through the callouts in a hurry.

Our 2024 Rising Phoenix Predictions

As fun as it may be to go against the grain and predict an upset, Shaw has given us no reason to doubt her yet. We think when the callouts are done and the awards are handed out, the four-time champ becomes the five-time champ. Yeo and Priami will join her in the top three at the end of the show.

  1. Andrea Shaw
  2. Angela Yeo
  3. Sherry Priami
