2022 Vancouver Island Showdown Contest Preview

By:
Roger Lockridge

A city that is rich in Canadian bodybuilding history is Vancouver, British Columbia. More history will be added to that tradition when the 2022 Vancouver Island Showdown contest takes place on Saturday, May 7 in Victoria, BC.

There are two contests scheduled to be held and they are both women’s contests. The women’s bodybuilding and women’s physique shows will both have 2022 Olympia qualifications on the line. Here’s what you can expect when the athletes step under the bright lights and face the judges.

Women’s Bodybuilding

The women’s bodybuilding roster is currently filled with only one athlete – Eva Montgomery, Other athletes will likely jump on board to compete in Vancouver between now and this weekend. Montgomery has competed in both Master’s and Open in her career. Her last onstage appearance was at the 2021 Tampa Pro, where she placed 11th. This may be as good of a chance for her to earn an Olympia qualification as she has ever had.

Women’s Physique

The women’s physique division has seven athletes scheduled to compete at the time of publishing. Danielle Goulet is making her pro debut at this contest. She earned her pro card by winning the 2021 Natural Canada Pro Qualifier contest.

The favorite to win the show is Christelle Zarvoska. She is the only athlete on this list that has Olympia experience. She finished in 8th place at the 2021 Olympia in Orlando, FL. She won the Omaha Pro last year as well. Unless she is way off the mark in Vancouver, expect her to take the Olympia qualification.

Emilija Martic competed at the Vancouver Pro in 2017, and she placed fourth in that show. Jodi Boam won that contest. She could be a contender at this year’s show if she looks as good or better than she did five years ago.

Maria Quennie Liberman may be an athlete to watch. According to NPC News Online, she finished in sixth place at the 2021 Arizona Pro. This will be her first contest since that event, and she’s very likely to have improved significantly.
