Behind every successful company are it's people and MUSCLE INSIDER is no different. I've always said in the supplement industry that "it's not the powder it's the people" and with every new supplement company I consult for, I still believe this to be true. You can have the best idea in the world but if you don't have the right people on your team, you're done.

The Birth Of MUSCLE INSIDER

Back in 2009, I decided to start a hardcore, science backed bodybuilding magazine that catered to the serious lifters and those really "into" the science of building muscle and losing fat. But this one had to be free of the usual censorship and "coverups" that go on in the business. Ya, that shit happens all the time! Of course, the idea of starting a magazine was crazy to some, especially with the publishing industry in such dire straights.

"Print is dead, print is dead!" is all I kept hearing from everyone. But I just knew that niche hobbies like bodybuilding were alive and well and their audiences were starving for the kind of science that I'd grew up reading in the pages of the legendary magazine MUSCLE MEDIA 2000.  So once I had raised the capital needed to start a magazine (it's really expensive) I had to find the best team I could to make it happen. So I called a close friend I'd known for almost 15 years. A guy I went to University with. This same guy I hired when I was the head of marketing at MuscleTech many years ago and later at WELLNX (makers of SLIMQUICK and NxLABS). I've considered this guy to be one of my very best friends for over a decade! A man with morals and unmatched work ethic like no other. But apart from all that "fluff" he's also and a guy that knows the athlete and event marketing side of the bodybuilding business better than anyone in Canada! And I mean anyone. So I called him up and asked him to meet me at Jack Astor's to discuss an "opportunity" I had came across. When he sat down across from me and I told him about my crazy idea, you know the idea about me starting MUSCLE INSIDER! After I told him how the magazine would look, who our writers would be, how we'd make it our goal to support both male and female bodybuilders, how we wouldn't accept ads from fraudulent advertisers, how we wouldn't censor the truth and how we'd not likely be profitable for 2 or 3 years. What did he say? 

"Heck. Why not? That sounds like fun!"

And the rest is history! The man I'm talking about is Domenic Mauro and he's our Vice President of Operations here at MUSCLE INSIDER. I can confidently say that he's the real reason shit gets done around here! He's the hardest working guy you'll ever meet and he's the reason why MUSCLE INSIDER is already the #1 bodybuilding magazine in Canada. His relentless effort at each contest and in our office sets the bar so high it's hard to keep up to him.

Domenic's the kind of guy that makes everyone feel welcomed and one that our business could never survive without. And the reason I've spent a moment writing this is that today is Domenic Mauro's birthday! On behalf of MUSCLE INSIDER and the entire Canadian bodybuilding community, I want to wish Domenic a happy birthday. I also want to extend my deepest thanks for making us the company we are today. You've stuck by my side since day one no matter how tough times got and I'm proud to call you my business partner.
