NPC National competitor Patrick Matsuda was attacked with a baseball bat outside his home early Sunday morning and has died! Bakersfield police responded to a 911 call just before 2:30 a.m. from a woman who said her husband was being assaulted. Officers responded to the home on the 4300 block of Whitegate Avenue and found 40-year-old Patrick Matsuda suffering from multiple injuries in a front yard. Matsuda was taken to Kern Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed Matsuda encountered several people outside his home and became involved in a physical altercation. He ran to a nearby front yard where the suspects continued the assault. Neighbors said Matsuda went outside his home because he was annoyed with people making too much noise across the street. The assault happened when he asked them to stop. Police so far have not confirmed those reports. The assailants reportedly left the area in separate vehicles. Investigators are looking into the possibility the attack was gang-related. Anyone with information is asked to call Bakersfield police at (661) 327-7111. Our condolences to the Matsuda family and friends.
