Q. What was your experience like dieting down for your first men’s physique contest?
A. I’d say it was only slightly more intense than the regular routine I follow year-round to stay in shape. I actually only decided to compete at the three-week-out mark, and this was after taking 10 days off from the gym. In the final weeks I ate six protein meals per day, two of those meals with carbs, three with fats, and my last meal consisting only of protein. I would wake up at 3 a.m. to have an IsoBolic shake to ensure I wouldn’t become catabolic during my empty-stomach a.m. cardio. The day before the show, I took a handful of dandelion root with each of my meals and cut down my water to only a half cup with every meal. At 9 p.m., after the athletes’ meeting, I cut out my water completely. In the final five days leading up to the show, I had my good friend IFBB pro Toney Freeman check out my pictures daily and give me his opinion on how I was looking. We decided it would be best to carb deplete for two days, carb up the final two days before show, and then drop water. It worked like a charm! One of the best tricks Toney taught me in prepping for this show was to pose after each of my meals the day before the show. I found this really kept me full and tight on show day, and the excessive carbs from the loading didn’t store as fat. I was using so many of my supplements during this prep that we decided to come out with a new Nutrabolics stack: the Presidential Stack! All the info on the stack can be found on www.Nutrabolics.com/stacks.
