Why did you become a personal trainer?
I’ve always had an interest in the human body, anatomy, fitness, health, and nutrition. I learned a lot from just doing—trial and error. But once I got the hang of different exercises and training methods and became more familiar with the health and fitness industry, I decided that my passion lay in teaching and educating others. From there, I got my kinesiology degree and my personal training certifications and began furthering my knowledge in nutrition so that I could help people realize that they can live a happier life by implementing what I teach them. From there, I started taking clients both online and in person, and I haven’t looked back! It’s been the most fun I’ve had at a job ever. Sometimes the hours aren’t ideal, but in the end when you have a client sending you messages about buying new pants or feeling happy and healthy, it makes it all worth it.
What do you think is the reason your clients gravitated to you?
I think that I bring a few different qualities to the personal training scene. My education as a kinesiologist, as well as working for a time in a clinic, has helped expand my knowledge of the human body, injuries, and health. Next is my five-plus years training clients, training myself, and continuing to educate myself. Last is my personality; I have an extreme enthusiasm and excitement for fitness, and helping people is an absolute love of mine! I get so excited when people start realizing what their goals are and, even more so, start actualizing them! Once someone gets a taste of progress, there is a light in their eyes that really warms my heart. I believe that once a client gets in front of me and starts to dedicate themselves to the process, they are a client for life.
Greatest client success story.
All of my clients (save two or three) have been with me for over 1.5 years. I have online clients who are mostly repeats and personal-training clients who are with me two or three times a week for over three years. I’d say that they are all successes! They’ve all accomplished so much, including weight loss, strength gains, and an improvement in quality of life, and they have gained the knowledge of how to properly feed and nourish their bodies along with their entire families. I have one that really stands out the most for me, though; I have a 60-year-old client who had had years of shoulder injuries and imbalances. After working with me for a short period of time, she told me that she had gained so much more confidence when performing basic activities of daily living, more specifically, stepping up on stools and reaching for laundry detergent. Before she would have been very hesitant and scared, but now she’s able to grab a heavy tub of liquid detergent without a second thought. Now that’s cool!
Why do you think you can rep BSN like a boss? What do you love about the brand?
Over the last year, I’ve really found a huge benefit in posting on social media platforms, for not only my businesses but also as a way to spread knowledge. I love teaching and educating, so using social media to reach out to individuals looking to make a change in their lives is just another way for me to fall in love with the health and fitness industry again. By using my ever-growing platforms, I’ll be able to educate people on the uses and benefits of proper supplementation. Because sometimes, life gets in the way and I want to help people understand the proper uses and timing of supplements, such as what BSN offers. This line in particular offers a wide range of supplements that I want to help individuals understand how to use correctly and what their benefits are.
Why should YOU be Canada’s Top trainer?
I’ve been in this industry a long time, and I’ve had a very wide range of clients both online and in person. I’ve trained myself and had coaches, and I have had a lot of experience with different styles and methods of training and nutrition. The versatility in my fitness, nutrition, and health knowledge is by far one of my biggest assets. I’ve been on both ends of the fitness industry; I’ve been overweight with no knowledge, and I’ve been able to perform at a high level of athletics. I believe that my clients feel my passion and excitement for fitness, and that helps them have much more confidence in me as a trainer but also in their own goals and inner drive. First and foremost, I want to educate, encourage, and motivate. I believe that everyone has it in them to make a healthy, positive change. And my job isn’t to count reps, but to know my clients’ goals and help them find want to find the best way to achieve them.
What is your favourite BSN product and why?
I believe that results come from proper recovery and a quality foundation, like a house. I like to make sure that my immune system is working optimally, my joints are healthy, and my muscles start repairing right away after an intense gym session. Therefore, I like to make sure that I’m fully stocked up on fish oils, glutamine, and a quality whey protein supplement.
