Glanbia Acquires SlimFast
Glanbia Performance Nutrition (GPN) is the largest global performance nutrition brand portfolio comprising Optimum Nutrition, BSN, Isopure, thinkThin, Nutramino, ABB, Body & Fit and Amazing Grass. Glanbia Performance Nutrition has now also acquired SlimFast for $350 million. SlimFast is one of the most recognizeable weight-loss brands in the world and is distributed primarily in the food, drug, mass and club (FDMC) channel in the U.S. and U.K. The deal also includes SlimFast’s sister company HNS. Headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, SlimFast had $212 million of net sales in 2017 with adjusted EBITDA (before non-recurring costs) of $24 million and, after non-recurring supply chain transition costs, a net loss before tax of $12 million. The gross assets of SlimFast at its 2017 financial year end were $136 million. Glanbia plans to operate SlimFast within its performance nutrition segment, hopefully they will trim some of the fat at SlimFast (hey, we had to add some humour to the post)!

It plays to global consumer trends focused on convenient formats and snacking."

SlimFast recently launched a variety of new products including high-protein SlimFast Advanced, SlimFast Advanced Energy with caffeine, and a Keto product offering. With Glanbia now behind SlimFast, consumers can look forward to seeing protein innovation finally reach the SlimFast portfolio.
