MUTANT Reveals Leuvate: A New Anabolic Ingredient Platform

Jim McMahon and Dr. Daniel Traylor discuss the Leuvate ingredient innovation during a Muscle Insider interview at the Arnold Sports Festival.

Fitness enthusiasts and supplement industry insiders can confirm that one of the big talking points internally at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, OH was the rising cost of protein. Some concerns included supply, rising costs, and how those factors would ultimately impact customer service.

Muscle Insider CEO Andrew Bukowsky was having several discussions to find out more about this, and that included MUTANT CEO Jim McMahon. McMahon offered a potential solution in the form of an innovation that he expects to be released very soon, Leuvate.

“There’s a little issue with whey protein going over the ledger with prices and whatnot. So I know there’s a lot of people a little challenged. I won’t say panic, but protein prices are a little tough for all of us.” Jim McMahon said in jest.

At the center of the collaboration is Leuvate, a novel ingredient system designed to amplify the anabolic impact of protein while using smaller doses.

What Is Leuvate and How Does It Work?

Leuvate is a next-generation amino acid innovation designed to enhance muscle protein synthesis by leveraging a leucine-enriched essential amino acid system.

Dr. Daniel Traylor explained the science behind the innovation.

Dr. Daniel Traylor explaining how Leuvate allows smaller amounts of protein to achieve similar muscle protein synthesis effects.

“It’s called Leuvate, and it’s a leucine-enriched essential amino acid blend. We also add creatine and vitamin D3 to it. This leucine-enriched blend increases muscle protein synthesis signaling at a higher rate than you would expect. We’re able to take smaller amounts of protein and add Leuvate to it and get the same effects as if you consumed 25–40 grams of protein. So less is more. It’s a really interesting formula, and we’ve made it low calorie.”

Dr. Daniel Traylor also spoke with Bukowsky and McMahon about Leuvate, including how the science behind it goes back to 2012. According to Traylor, leucine is the secret weapon that does the heavy lifting.

“I’d like to say it’s the player-coach: it gets the team going and then joins the fight,” Traylor shared. “And that’s really what’s special about it, because you can use this type of formula and use smaller amounts of protein and get the same effects as if you consume the large dose of protein. So, I like to say it’s like adding jet fuel to gasoline — or to your protein.”

With 30 years of success behind him, McMahon knows a thing or two about how to handle innovations like Leuvate. He’s taken his time in learning all there is to know about it and how to include it in the MUTANT family of products. After nearly a year and a half of studying and working, he told Bukowsky that the time for releasing products with Leuvate is nearly at hand.

“I’ve been jonesing for getting this one done for about 15 months now — we’re quite excited. I would say sometime in May or June.”

Traylor expressed similar optimism about Leuvate’s potential to impact the supplement industry in both the short- and long-term future.

“I feel that Leuvate has a lot of different avenues that it can go down as far as markets.”
