With New Year upon us, many people are thinking of and planing New Year Resolutions! Many are about getting rid of bad habits, loosing weight, living a healthier lifestyle. Most people however want to get in better shape. I'm sure you or someone close to you is planning this right now. What you need to know is that this won't be easy! It requires a lot of sacrifice and self discipline. Working out is one thing, getting in the shape you dream of is another. One of the most common reasons people fail is because they don't see fast results and often they don't get support from friends and family. They get discouraged and go back to their old lifestyle.

One of the biggest mistakes people make in regards to fitness is that they set unrealistic goals. At the beginning they train everyday and expect daily changes. Not only do they get burned out fast but usually their motivation is gone within a couple of weeks because they don't see results they were hoping for. That's why it's so important to set realistic goals and work towards them with consistency and determination. This is not a quick fix, it's a lifestyle change. Take your time. Be patient. Remember it takes 4 weeks for you to see changes in your body, 8 weeks for your friends to notice and 12 weeks for everyone else to notice. Don't give up! Beginnings are the hardest!!!

Changing bad eating habits is another popular resolution!! What you need to know is that this is also a lifestyle change. Most people apply drastic changes to their diets and they cannot keep up with it for too long. Restricting calories too much or adding them drastically (for people who want to put size on) and not understanding how to diet is a sure set up for failure. You need to educate yourself about diet and nutrition as a life long change that will keep your body healthy and feeling good. You can't expect to loose or gain  pounds daily! Everybody is different and will see different results. Genetics, lifestyle, commitment to your goal, work or school schedule will vary for everybody.

You have to customize your training, diet and rest to your personal needs! You can't follow your favourite bodybuilder or fitness model routine if you work 12hr shifts and eat 3 times/day. It just won't work! Be realistic and make sure your fitness schedule matches your lifestyle. One thing you can control is your commitment! You will get what you put in! If you train hard, eat clean and commit 100%, you'll see the results your after! We see this all the time with our clients at fitness vacations we organize. People who commit 100% and train beyond their comfort zone get results! Most people start new year resolutions as the name implies in the new year. Often they don't train and go on binge eating during Christmas because they'll start a fitness lifestyle soon. The result? They gain weight fast and are much further from their goals in just few days!
