The 2024 New York Pro has become what many fans consider the number three show in the IFBB Pro League behind the Olympia and Arnold Classic. The 2024 edition of Steve Weinberger’s show will be held on Saturday, May 18th in Teaneck, New Jersey and will host nine of the 11 pro divisions.
We’re going to dust off that crystal ball and look at what we see happening at this event. We will start with the women’s divisions (Bodybuilding, Figure, Bikini, Physique, and Wellness, followed by the men’s lineups (Bodybuilding, 212, Classic, Physique). You can see the full lineups for the competitions on the IFBB Pro League website.
Women’s Bodybuilding
There are only six competitors in the Women’s Bodybuilding division. Leyvina Rodrigues Barros won the 2023 Romania Muscle Fest Pro, which qualified her for the 2024 Ms. Olympia. That lack of pressure may serve her well. Ashley Lynnette Jones was 11th at the 2023 Ms. Olympia, and she does need that qualification. Keisha Oliver was fourth in this lineup in 2022, and she is poised to make her 2024 debut. We can see those three claiming the top spots in this show on Saturday, with Jones taking the victory.

Maria Luisa Baeza Diaz Pereira was 10th at the 2023 Olympia, and she is the defending champion of this contest. We are calling her for the repeat and successful title defense, but it won’t be easy. Gabriela Consolmagno and Thais Cabrices-Werner will both make the callouts interesting and challenging for the judges. Keep an eye on Canadians Emily Hammond and Valerie Ratelle, who can make charges into the top five. Ratelle was in the 2022 Olympia but finished outside the top 15. This is her first show since then.

There are 12 women in the Bikini division lineup, but no one is doubting Aimee Leann Delgado to defend her title at this contest. It feels like we are watching her ascend to the elite of the division this season. She was sixth at the Olympia last year, but she will likely place higher in Las Vegas. The question is who rounds out the top three at this show. Both Lisa Reith and Valeria Fedorenko have Olympia experience as well. They are as good of choices as any.

Women’s Physique
Marika Jones won the St. Louis Pro earlier this season, and she wants win number two to be a big one. She appears to be the early favorite, but watch for Julia Schrade, who will be making her IFBB Pro League debut. In a show like this, cracking the top three would be a serious accomplishment. Yuna Kim was fourth in the 2023 New York Pro, and we have her going up against Jones for the title, but Jones should get the W.

Wellness

For the Wellness division, we defer to our own in-house expert, Johnny Styles. He sees this as a highly contested show, but the top two in his eyes are Giselle Machado and Elisa Alcantara. Machado was a late addition to the show, which means we will see a rematch between the two following the Pittsburgh Pro, where Alcantara got the win.
Canadian Emily Azzarello has been a rising star in the division and is ready to break through to the top tier. She won the 2024 Vancouver Island Showdown event earlier in the season, but this will still be a serious test for her on the road to the 2024 Olympia. Having both fullness and conditioning is going to be key for her to crack the top three of this show, but we have faith she will do it. Styles also shared that the other two to watch for making the top five are Edna De Souza and Sheila Guidry.
