Canadas Best Chances To Win The 2022 Olympia - Mens Wheelchair

By:
Roger “Rock” Lockridge

There has only been one champion in the history of the Wheelchair Olympia – Harold Kelley. “King Kong” Kelley has been ruling that division since their first Olympia was held in 2018. Can anyone knock him off? There is a chance, but the question for Muscle Insider readers would be if a Canadian can do it. Last year’s Olympia featured no Canadians at all, but the full roster for this year’s Olympia is below, as listed on the Mr. Olympia website, and two men from Canada are on the list.

  • Harold Kelley (USA)
  • Gabriele Andriulli (Italy)
  • Antoni Khadraoui (Algeria)
  • Adelfo Cerame, Jr (USA)
  • Tyler Brey (USA)
  • Tory Jones (Canada)
  • Pierre Kavalin (Brazil)
  • Woody Belfort (Canada)
  • Bradley Betts (USA)
  • Anand Arnold (India)
  • Chad McCrary (USA)
  • Karol Milewski (Poland)
  • Abraham Sanchez (USA)
  • Nick Hewitt (UK)

The man with the best chance to dethrone Kelley is Gabriele Addriulli from Italy, who actually defeated Kelley at the 2022 Arnold Classic. Aside from him, Kelley remains the man to beat, but let’s look at Canada’s two representatives from this division to see where they may finish at the Olympia.

Canada's Chances

Tory Jones

Jones wasn’t in the 2021 Olympia, and he qualified this year by winning the 2021 Toronto Pro title. There are several veterans in this lineup, and it could be difficult to stand out, but Jones can realistically set a goal of finishing in the top ten, and a top six finish would be a big deal for him going into next year.

Woody Belfort

Belfort won the 2022 Toronto Pro to qualify for the Olympia, which means the last two Toronto Pro winners will go head-to-head as well as against the best wheelchair physique athletes in the world. Belfort can put on a show, including doing a handstand while he’s in his chair as a part of his posing routine. He will also be making his Olympia debut, and with this being the biggest lineup in the contest’s history, he would make a big statement by placing in the top ten, or even top six.
