Dr. Ken Kinakin is a sport medicine doctor, chiropractor, certified strength and conditioning specialist and personal trainer! He’s also the author of the book “Optimal Muscle Training” and has competed in bodybuilding and powerlifting for over 20 years. Dr. Kinakin lectures around the world to doctors and personal trainers on the areas of weight-training, rehabilitation and nutrition. He is also the clinic director for the AIM Health & Wellness clinic (see www.aimhealthgroup.com), with a rehabilitation and training centre in Mississauga, Ontario. What Supplements Are Good For Building Mass?

Q. What supplements (if any) do you recommend for bodybuilders and those looking to build mass?

A. The number one mistake I see bodybuilders make is that they don’t have foundational supplementation. That in my opinion always starts with a high-quality multivitamin/mineral supplement. Most bodybuilders have a restricted and redundant diet plan and usually are low in various vitamins and minerals. The second part of foundational supplementation is a high-quality broad-spectrum digestive enzyme. Because of the large amount of food and frequent meals in a bodybuilding diet, the digestive system needs support. This is especially true if you have a lot of gas and bloating after meals. That would be a good marker to determine if you need digestive enzymes. The third part is proper levels of fish oils to help the cell structure and also support the hormones and neurotransmitters. The most powerful way of building mass is still creatine monohydrate, as it drives water into the cell, increasing cell volumization, which increases the protein synthesis process.
