Q: What’s your opinion on using yeast hydrolysate for fat loss? 

A: I wouldn’t say yeast hydrolysate is either the next big thing or a scam. It appears to have some decent research supporting its use as a 
fat-loss aid. A study just published in the journal Nutrition showed that 
yeast hydrolysate has positive effects on weight reduction in obese
 male and female human subjects. The 10-week study was made up
of 54 obese subjects. They were randomly assigned to take in 0.5 
grams of yeast hydrolysate or dextrin (control) twice a day, 30 minutes
 before breakfast and dinner. After 6 weeks, the subjects taking in yeast hydrolysate showed a significant reduction in calorie intake, which was maintained until the end of the study. At the end of the 10 weeks, the yeast hydrolysate subjects lost an average of 5.7 pounds, while the placebo subjects actually gained weight—almost 2 pounds. These results are quite positive for those who have trouble controlling their appetite and are looking for some help. The researchers believe
 that yeast hydrolysate works to lower body weight by way of reducing appetite and calorie intake, but are still investigating other potential mechanisms of action. Look for more studies to be done on this ingredient as the obesity epidemic continues to grow throughout many parts of the world.
